Winters College Dining Hall Needs Your Help!

The Winters College Dining Hall has been a cornerstone of the College community for over 40 years. It is one of only two remaining grand rooms out of the original seven constructed during the 1960s. Over time, and with campus expansion, each of the others were systematically deemed obsolete and turned into classrooms, labs, and offices. These historic sites, widely used by students and faculty alike as educational and social spaces, served the College community for decades—our goal is to ensure the continuation of the Winters Dining Hall for many years to come.

The Office of the Master, Winters College, is proud to announce the Winters Gala Fundraiser, an evening of performance to raise awareness and funds for the preservation and renovation of student space in the College. The list of performers – all faculty, alumni and current students – is impressive! We have renowned musician Ron Westray (formerly with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and Wynton Marsalis), internationally acclaimed A cappella group Cadence (Juno nominated), Rita di Ghent (two-time “Jazz Vocalist of the Year” nominee, National Jazz Awards), Ori Dagan (CBC’s “Canada’s Next Top Crooner” Award), the Celtic Ensemble directed by Sherry Johnson (two-time Canadian Open Group Step Dancing Championship), and Casey Sokol (OCUFA Award), as well as the York University Gospel Choir, the Winters A cappella Choir WIBI, Brian Katz and the Klezmer Band – among many others. We are deeply indebted to all of these performers for coming forward in support of this event!

The evening begins at 6:00pm on Tuesday March 22^nd to showcase some of our talented students. At 7:00pm we’ll begin with the headliners, and the main program will run until 10:00pm.

Tickets are on sale now!!!

$10 for students, $50 for guests (faculty, staff, alumni and visitors), and are available in the Office of the Master, 121 Winters College.

 

 

WCC and CASA formal tickets now on sale!

Starting Wednesday, March 09, WCC & CASA will be selling tickets for this year’s formal! It will be a blast, as always!

Emmanuel Jal – We Want Peace

Emmanuel Jal was born into the life of a child solider. Through unbelievable struggles, Emmanuel managed to survive and emerge as a world-famous recording artist with a hit record under his belt. Called an artist “with the potential of a young Bob Marley” by Peter Gabriel, he has performed at Live 8 and Nelson Mandela’s 90th b-day concert. His music can be heard in major motion pictures, TV, and he’s been featured in major outlets like TIME, USA Today, NPR, CNN, MTV, & the BBC. Emmanual is also a spokesperson for Amnesty International and Oxfam, and created the charitable foundation, Gua Africa…

….and he’s speaking at York!

Come hear his story Thursday February 17th at 3pm in the Tribute Community Recital Hall.

The actual Talent Show will be held on March 25th and will be full of fun fundrasing activities and your performances will be voted on by the audience members themselves! Winners will be rewarded!!! 🙂
